Bhubaneswar: At least 137 labourers and workers died and 132 injured in industrial accidents in different factories of Odisha in the last three years.
Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak said while replying to a question of MLA Sudhir Kumar Samal in Assembly on Wednesday.
In regard to the death of workers in industrial mishaps, 1126 cases have been registered under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 and compensation of Rs 48.31 crore was paid to the victims during the past three years, Shri Nayak said.
He said the legal heirs of seven workers (who died in such mishaps) registered with the Odisha Unorganised Workers’ Social security Board have been provided with death benefits amounting to Rs 14 lakh.
Besides, family members of 15 deceased workers registered with Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board have been given ex-gratia of Rs 48 lakh, he added.
Replying to another question asked by BJD MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick, the Labour Minister said 3464 migrant labourers, who were exploited in other states, have been rescued during the past three years.
These labourers have been rescued after proper investigation and in coordination with concerned state government and help desks set up in other states, Shri Nayak informed.
The Minister further said that his department doesn’t have any information about the worker/labourers, who migrated to other countries in search of work.
