Bhubaneswar: State Government has announced Big Bonous of Rs 120 crore for the welfare of Kendu-leaf pluckers in Odisha.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the bonus would benefit around 8 lakh Kendu-leaf pluckers, binders, and other seasonal staff associated with the work.
This apart, the State Government has also increased the collection price of Kendu leaves for 2022, which will help 7.50 lakh people, mostly tribal women, to earn an additional income of Rs 240 crore, the statement said.
It is to be noted that the State Government is investing all the trade surpluses from Kendu leaf business in the welfare of the seasonal staff such as pluckers, binders and other associated workers.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has always been extending financial support for these workers, who are engaged in KL Trade.
