PM Praises Team Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi never fails to compliment efforts of Odisha in saving lives of people during a natural disaster.

Be it Fani or Amphan, Mr.Modi has always been generous in lauding the State, which has set benchmark in handling disasters.

So Mr.Modi on 22 May also complimented efforts of the State Government and appreciated the efforts of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in saving lives of people, when the Extremely Severe Cyclone-Amphan posed serious challenge to the life and property of the people of Odisha.

After taking stock of the situation he was happy to announce an advance financial assistance of Rs 500 crore for Amphan affected State.

Earlier, he had announced an advance financial assistance of Rs.1000 Crore for West Bengal.

Very interestingly whenever Prime Minister Mr.Modi makes an announcement, money reaches State Coffers within few days.

Where as in earlier dispensation though the then Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh made such announcement, funds never comes with such a speed, admits officials.

So Odisha will be getting Rs.500 Crore by next week, officials say.

Mr.Modi made the announcement after an aerial survey of areas of Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrakh, Balasore and Kendrapada hit by cyclone 'Amphan' and holding a review meeting with Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The Prime Minister also said more financial assistance will be provided for long-term rehabilitation measures after getting a detailed report from the State Government.

Mr.Modi said that though the Odisha Government has been able to save lives by undertaking preparations well in advance, the cyclone has caused damage to housing, power and infrastructure, besides the agriculture sector while moving towards West Bengal.

Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Sarangi were also present at the review meeting held at the premises of the Biju Patnaik International Airport here.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, ACS Disaster Management and SRC Pradeep Jena gave out details on the management of Amphan and breiefd PM about how the State Government is fighting one after another natural disasters aptly.

During last one year, Odisha has faced at least 3 major cyclone- Fani, Bulbul and Amphan.

Earlier, PM Mr.Modi was received by Governor Ganeshi lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, DGP Abhay and others at Bhubaneswar airport.
