Probe On Bus Fire

 In-depth Investigation into the bus tragedy occurred in Ganjam district in which nine persons were electrocuted and 22 others sustained severe injuries has been ordered by the State Government.


The passengers loaded vehicle came in contact with a 11 kv transmission line earlier in the day and the bus caught fire in Golanthara area of Ganjam district on 9 February.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep condolence and announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin (NoK) of the deceased.
 
Mr.Patnaik also announced that free medical treatment would be provided to the injured, an official in CMO said.

The injured were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. Five of the injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The mishap occurred near Mandarajpur when the bus was proceeding to Chikarada from Jangalpadu carrying around 40 passengers.

The people were on their way to attend a marriage negotiation ceremony, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Berhampur Sadar, Jayant Kumar Mohapatra said.
 
Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera said, a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident and stern action will be taken against the guilty.

Union Petroleum Natural Gas  and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed shock over the mishap and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
  Union Minister demanded a thorough investigation on the incident and asked for concrete steps to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Local people along with the Police and Fire Services Personnel
swung into action immediately after the accident.

Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Sukant Sethi said, the fire has been extinguished and all those inside the vehicle have been rescued and shifted to Hospital after disconnecting power supply in the transmission line.

Preliminary Report reveals that the luggage carrier of the bus came in contact with the transmission line along the road when the driver tried to give way to a two-wheeler on the narrow path, he said.
 
The incident will be thoroughly investigated to ascertain the circumstances in which the accident took place, CFO Mr.Sethi said.
