Virus Spike On Rise

Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) Positive Cases risen to 1,67,161 on 17 September as 4,241 more people tested positive for the infection.

With 13 new cases of fatalities the total  death toll due to COVID-19 reached to 669, official admit.

Odisha had reported its highest single-day spike of 4,270 COVID-19 positive cases on 16 September.

BJP Lawmaker from Puri,  Jayanta Kumar Sarangi has tested positive for COVID-19 and has self-quarantined.

Mr.Sarangi informed about this in a social media post on Wednesday and requested all those who came in contact with him to get tested to know if they have contracted the virus and go for self-quarantine.

As many as 2,502 new cases were detected in quarantine centres, while 1,739 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, he said.

Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, registered the highest number of new cases at 647, followed by Cuttack (389) and Puri (291), the official said.

Four cases of deaths each were reported in Puri and Khurda districts, two in Gajapati and one each in Balasore, Cuttack and Sonepur districts, an official said.

At least 53 COVID-19 patients have died in the state due to other ailments so far, the official said.

Ganjam district has so far reported the highest number of Covid-19 related deaths at 215, followed by Khurda (100) and Cuttack (55), he said.

Odisha now has 36,580 active cases, while 1,29,859 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

Another 3607 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Odisha in the past 24 hours.

Odisha has so far tested over 26.19 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 51,824 on 16 September.

So far Plasma Therapy has been administered to 1,000 patients in the state, a senior official said.

More than 1300 Plasma Units have been collected in the State and are distributed continuously to the critical patients, officials say.

Plasma Therapy for critical COVID-19 patients was introduced in Odisha at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 15 July.
