Odisha Government has requested Ministry of Home Affairs to send a Central Team to assess the situation due to Heavy Rains and Flood affecting 20 districts.
Pradeep Jena, ACS Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has written to the MHA in this regard, said sources.
After sending request letter, Mr.Jena talked to senior officials of Ministry to expedite the matter, for which MHA is taking proactive steps in constituting a Central Team, officials sources say.
While the State Government is continuing relief and rescue operations in the heavily affected districts of Balasore, Bhadrakh, jajpur, Kendrapra, Jagatisnghpur, Cuttack, Puri and Khordha, similar measures are also taken on other affected districts.
At least 119 Blocks and 22 Urban Local Bodies are affected due to Heavy rains and flood in 2020.
Mr.Jena is continuously talking to District Collectors and guiding them to take care of peoples’ lives and extend the required help.
While water from River Mahanadi is receding slowly due to full moon day on 2 September, officials in Kendrapara, Puri are kept alert and rescue as well as relief operations are on.
So far extending support by the Union Government during natural disasters are concerned, Odisha is getting full support of the Center, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Home Affairs Amit Shah is taking proactive steps in this regard.
Last time during Extremely Severe Cyclone, Amphan, not only the Central Team rushed to Odisha, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down to the cyclone affected State and announced Rs.500 Crore advance Central Assistance.
And Minister Home Affairs, Amit Shah sanctioned the money before 24 hours of the announcement and funds were made available with the State to take care of people.
This time also State Government officials are expecting visit of a Central Team visit at an early date.
