Odisha Strategy For Exports

While Odisha is targeting to achieve a target of Rs one lakh crore export by 2025, the state government will spell out its strategy in the meeting for formulation of National Export Strategy.

As Odisha has aimed to make its entry into the top three states in exports, the state government will soon come up with a new Odisha Export Policy to boost export from the state, it will draw the attention of the Union Government, which is trying to align it with the international trade scenario.
Union Secretary Commerce, Rita Teaotia has invited the Odisha Government to make the presentation on the State Export Strategy on 22 December, where other major states will be presenting their strategy for exports promotion.
Union Government is planning Joint Action Plan to boost export in the country and top exporting states will be participating in the process in a big way.
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Joint Secretary Commerce will be presenting the opportunities for export in agricultural products and their inclusion in the export strategy by the State Governments, including a Joint Action Plan for intervention by both State and Centre.
Mr.Sarangi, who belongs to Odisha Cadre of IAS is helping out the State for boosting export trade and as Chairman of APEDA, he has played a crucial role in this regard.
APEDA is taking up promotion of organic farming and certification as a component of export strategy by the states, as the importing countries are harping on such requirements.
While states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka will be making presentations, Odisha will also present its strategy for export.
ACS MSME. L N Gupta will be making presentation on export strategy, which will be chaired by Union Minister Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu, who has also soft corner for Odisha.
Mr.Prabhu as Union Minister for Railways has helped the State in providing more funds for Railway Projects during last three years.
In fact, Odisha taking huge steps on export front, has jumped five slots forward from 13th position to 9th position among the top exporting state of India, said an official in Department of MSME
While the export potential of Odisha, which was merely Rs 563 crore in 2001-02, had increased 34 times to Rs 19,875 crore in 2015-16. The value of exports between 2015-16 and 2016-17 has registered a phenomenal growth of 114 Percent to Rs 40,872 crore.
Odisha is ensuring ease of doing business to the exporters and is in the process of organizing all export related organizations under a single roof, said the official.
The meeting is being organized with an objective of the sharpening the export strategy for the state aligning with emerging opportunities, said a senior official.
