Union Government seems to be worried over alleged reports of overcharging by private hospitals and non-maintenance of standard treatment protocols.


Citing the case of allegation of overcharging by a major private hospital in Gurgaon, Union Government has urged the State Government to take steps in this regard to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the State.

Dr.R K Vats, Additional Secretary Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has cited the instance of alleged overcharging by Fortis memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, Haryana for treatment of dengue provided to a 7-year old baby girl, Adya Singh, which came in news papers.

Dr. Vats also pointed out another Media Report, in which it has been alleged about unhealthy nexus between doctors and testing laboratories.

It has been alleged that unethical malpractices such as commissions being paid to referring doctors by diagnostics centers have been highlighted in the Media Report.

Dr. Vats has said such incidents have an extremely deleterious impact on the faith of the general public in the healthcare service providers in the country.

Under this backdrop, he has drawn attention of the State Government that Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation )Act, 2010 under which effective action can be taken against such clinical establishments indulging in unethical and corrupt practices in the States.

He has pointed out that moreover, under the Rules making provisions, the State Government can cover the acts of commission, omission and corrupt practices etc.

Further, there are provisions under other Acts, Rules and Regulations under which action can be contemplated against such activities.
 
Dr.Vats has underscored the endeavor to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur and implement the Clinical Establishment Act in the State at the earliest.
