Dry Spell Report Asked

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today directed officials to take expeditious steps to counter the situation arising due to Dry Spells in several areas of the steps.

 
Mr.Padhi’s directive came during a review of the report of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi on possible drought situation in several areas of the State.
 
SRC Mr.Sethi along with his team visited several places of Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada districts, where the Team assessed the situation on Dry Spell.
 
According to sources, Team SRC found lack of adequate humidity in about 98 blocks in different districts.   
 
Mr.Padhi, said sources, directed the District Magistrates to furnish detailed report about the ground realities by October 22.
 
Chief Secretary Mr.Padhi will directly talk to the District Collectors on 13 October through Video Conferencing, said sources.
 
The Chief Secretary directed the officials of the Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC)  to immediately activate the new  irrigation points and bore wells in worst affected Nuapada, Bolangir and Bargarh districts and repair, if necessary, the existing facilities to counter the challenge posed by adverse weather.
 
Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, present at the meeting, asked the officials of Department of Water Resources to furnish report on weekly basis about the lift irrigation points.
 
He also asked the officials of the Department of Revenue & Disaster management and Farmers Empowerment Departments to visit the sites on a regular basis to furnish joint reports, the sources added.
 
The Chief Secretary directed the officials of Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water supply, Agriculture and Fisheries & Animal Resources Departments and the Special Relief Commissioner to immediately start Labour oriented projects in affected blocks and arrange drinking water and fodder there.
