Norway On Healthcare

More Healthcare facilities including a comprehensive skill lab, family centered care unit in SNCU and Pediatrics emergency triage-assessment and treatment unit, were inaugurated by Ambassador of Norway to India Nils Ragnar Kamsvag at Capital Hospital here today.

The comprehensive skill lab at Capital Hospital is the second such facility in the State, after College of Nursing, Berhampur. Kamsvag along with Health & Family Welfare Minister Pradeep Amat opened the facility. Secretary Health & Family Welfare Pramod Kumar Meherda graced the occasion.
The lab comprises skill stations where the trainees learn through practicing skills on mannequins, simulation exercises, demonstration videos and presentations.

It allows facilitators to demonstrate the correct steps and gives an opportunity for practice demonstration and feedback to the learners. It permits individualized learning through videos and self-practice on mannequins.
The skill stations help in clearly defining the learning outcomes against each activity being demonstrated at different stations.
Thus the assessment of the trainees becomes specific for the competencies acquired. This will also help in identifying the trainees who are weak in a particular skill, getting an opportunity to have their skills reinforced through periodic reorientation and practice. It improves the quality of pre service training and in-service training and provides Continuing Nursing Education and Continuing Medical Education
The Pediatric Emergency Triaging and Treatment (ETAT) unit at the Capital Hospital would have essential intervention for saving lives of pediatric emergency cases.

Pediatric emergencies need to be attended immediately at the facilities so that the crucial time for intervention is not lost. State Government with technical guidance of NIPI has decided to implement ETAT in the district hospitals in a phased manner.
The Family Centered Care (FCC) at SNCU at the State-run hospital is a facility for empowering mothers of newborns on kangaroo mother care and home care of newborns after discharge. FCC envisages partnering of mothers with health service providers in the SNCU.
This low cost intervention has a vision to partner the community and mothers with health care providers.  This has been adopted by all the SNCUs in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha.
In the continuous efforts of improving quality care for SNCU admitted Newborns, NIPI New born project NIPI has piloted Family Centred Care in Jharsuguda in 2015.
NIPI, (Norway India Partnership Initiative) was started in 2007, with Sambalpur, Angul and Jharsuguda as pilot districts for innovation.
