Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated a State-of-the-art Biju Patnaik e-Learning centre to provide latest facilities to students in the field of technical education at the campus of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) here.
After inaugurating the facilities, Mr.Patnaik announced that an incubation and entrepreneur development centre (EDC) would operate in VSSUT from this academic session.
“It will pave the way for students to give shape to their ideas and inquisitiveness. Apart from the students of VSSUT, the students of other institutions will also be benefitted after the centre becomes operational,” he said.
Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik said the Government is committed to developing the premier varsity as a world class centre of learning. He added that the State Government would work towards ensuring smooth maintenance of the institution. 60 years back the institution had started in Burla as the first engineering college of the State and was named University College of Engineering Burla under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
Chairman of Public Relations Cell of VSSUT PC Swain said the e-Learning centre has been constructed at an estimated cost to Rs 10.5 crore. “The two storied-building has six halls. While two halls have capacity to accommodate 2,000 people, the rest four halls have capacity to accommodate 200 to 250 audiences. It will enable the institution organize six programs at a time, including seminar, workshops, classes etc”, he added.
The alumni of this premier institution initially contributed funds for the project. Later the State Government also contributed fund for the Biju Patnaik e-Learning centre.
Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik later laid foundation stone for a new boys hostel—‘Agasthya Hall of Residence’, new academic block and multi-purpose administrative block-cum-amphitheatre.
The Vice President of the alumni association of VSSUT Ashesh Padhi urged the State Government for one time funding of Rs 100 crore for different developmental works being undertaken in the University. As many as 35 distinguished alumni were felicitated on the occasion.
VSSUT Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude for the enormous support provided by the state government during the last few years.
Chief Minister also inaugurated the golden jubilee celebration of Sambalpur University. Mr.Patnaik said, “A good institution should help create an appetite among the students for lifelong learning. Universities and all other educational institution should be places, where learning should take place along with joy.”
The Chief Minister later inaugurated the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Sambalpur head post office in the presence of Union Minister Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmedra Pradhan.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Mr.Patnaik attended a State level mega camp for distribution of aids and appliances to the differently-abled persons besides loan assistance to them. Around 2049 differently-abled beneficiaries received aids and appliances and loans during the program.
