State Surplus In Power

 In the present scenario, the State has an average surplus of 1200 MW.

 With Total Lock Down in force due to Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) spread, power demand is on wane and it is likely to go down, feel experts.
 
Not only Odisha but also in the country energy Consumption has slowed down, thanks to Lock Down Scenario.
 
In India Energy Consumption on 17 March was 3589 Million Units, which has gone down to 2992 MU on 24 March.
 
In Odisha Energy Consumption on 17 March was 79.56 Million Units, which has been slashed to 74.67MU on 24 March, said official sources.
 
Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary Energy held a review of Power Demand and availability situation in the State vis-à-vis approaching Summer Season.
 
It came to fore that the State’s average demand during the month was to the tune of 3300 MW which was reduced to 2750 MW on 19-20 March due to stormy weather condition in some parts of the State.

The demand was increased to 2950 MW on 21 March. The average demand was again reduced to 2770 MW on 22 March due to imposition of “Janata Curfew”.

On 24 March, the State’s demand was increased to 3064 MW. It is expected that the demand may reduce from 25 March onwards due to total lock down of the State.
 
Lock Down has resulted in shut down of small industries and market complexes
 
 The average and maximum demand profile of the State and all Power Distribution Companies (DISCOM)s during the month of March’20 (up to 24 March), which reveals fluctuation in demand.
 
 
Due to crash of demand in the country backing down of Central sector power is being allowed limiting to the technical minimum.
 
State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) is forced to back down the State Thermal generation even some times reduce the hydro generation.

However, the backing down depends on the quantum of power exchanged through trading by GRIDCO.
