Naveen Lauds Veterans

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday urged the ex-servicemen to take advantage of the State Government’s schemes to help the society as a whole.

Mr.Patnaik said this while addressing a gathering on the occasion of "Veterans Day".

"I appeal to the veterans to take advantage of various schemes being offered by the Government of Odisha so that they can contribute to society as well as make their own lives better", he said.
Terming the ex-servicemen and veterans as "extra ordinary" community, Patnaik praised the veterans’ selfless service to the nation at the prime of their age and sacrifices for ensuring the nations sovereignty and integrity.

This day has rightly been dedicated to Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander in Chief of Armed Forces of Independent India, who is a guiding beacon for serving as well as veteran soldiers, the Chief Minister said.

Mr.Patnaik also commended the contributions of 120 Infantry Battalion for the extraordinary relief work done in the aftermath of cyclone Fani.

The Chief Minister also paid floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial and felicitated widows of veterans on the occasion. He said the state government is committed for the welfare of ex-servicemen and make use of their rich potential in the service of the nation.

The 4" Armed Forces Veterans' Day and Ex-Servicemen Sammelan was organized in the premises of 120 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Bhubaneswar to commemorate the sacrifice of the Veterans during war and peace.

An approximately 1000 veterans and their families had gathered at the venue.

The Chief Minister was welcomed by 97 year old Vice Admiral SH Sarma PVSM a veteran of World War-II, 1965 and 1971.

Brig BP Patnaik (Retd.) in his address offered the services of ex-servicemen for the betterment of the State.

He said the veteran fraternity is a huge repository of diverse skills and experience which can be tapped for the overall development of the society and state.

The Chief Minister felicitated five women whose husbands had participated in World War-II.

Besides, arrangements for redressal of grievances of the veterans were made which included service counters of the Veteran Cell, Reserve Bank of India, Central Pension Processing Cell, Record Offices of various Regiments, RTO, CSD Canteen and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme.

The State Agriculture Department had put up elaborate arrangements to guide the veterans on modern techniques of farming besides promoting organic methods in Agriculture.

Brig S.S Dhadwal, Commander Chhatisgarh and Odisha Sub Area was present on the occasion besides prominent senior war veterans of Odisha, notably Lt Gen N.P Padhi, PVSM,VSM, Lt Gen Nayaran Mohanty, PVSM,AVSM,VSM , Air Marshal JN Burma, VSM & Col HS Mohapatra.
