AHRCC Gets New Name


The Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Center (AHRCC) will be renamed as Acharya Harihar Post-Graduate Institute of Cancer.


The decision for renaming the State run Premier Cancer Facility was taken in the Governing Body (GB) meeting of  the  AHRCC held here under the chairmanship of Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena on 11 January.
 
Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Pramod Kumar Meherda, AHRCC Director Dr. Lalatendu Sarangi, Administrative Officer Dr. R.N. Dash, SCBMCH Dean-cum-Principal Prof. Sidharth Das were present in the GB meeting
    
 After elaborate discussion, several decisions were also taken for expansion and development of the leading Cancer Institute of Eastern India to ensure better healthcare facilities and deal with rising inflow of patients.

As per decision, around 4 acres of land, belonging to the Industries and General Administration (GA) Departments adjacent to the hospital will be handed over to the AHRCC for expansion of the premises to accommodate the growing number of inflow patients and setting up Academic Building, Hostel for Resident Doctors, Auditorium, Library, Examination Hall etc.

It has also been decided for setting up two Linear Accelerators (LINACs) and one Cobalt Radiotherapy Bunker for improvement in providing 24-hour emergency health service to cancer patients.

Besides, the GB meeting resolved to provide Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan facilities to patients on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode very soon.

“In continuance of the recently launched MCh courses in Surgical Oncology and Gynaecological Oncology, steps will be taken for starting postgraduate courses in other departments at AHRCC very soon,” said the Health and Family Welfare Minister. Besides, Tata Trust has been asked to prepare a masterplan for development and upgradation of AHRCC, he added.

A Year Book, Year Book-2017,published for the first time by AHRCC highlighting different activities and achievements was also released on this occasion by the Minister Mr.Jena.
