In'tel Dam Safety Meet

Odisha Government will host ‘International Dam Safety Conference’ on February 13 and 14 here.

Several hundred delegates both from India and abroad will participate in it and deliberate on various issues.

Central Water Commission (CWC) Chairman S. Masood Husain said this here today after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the purpose.

The CWC Chairman said, “International Dam Safety Conference will be held here in Bhubaneswar on February 13 and 14.
The dam safety program is of Government of India’s Ministry of Water Resources. This will be the fifth conference. A World Bank program on dam safety is underway in the country. This program is based on the safety and maintenance issues of the old dams. And this International Conference is a part of it.”

He said experts, water professionals and dam safety professionals of more than 20 foreign countries will participate in it.

The CWC Chairman said four such conferences have already been organized earlier and the one in Odisha will be the fifth.
The event will be jointly organized by State Water Resources Department, Central Water Commission and World Bank while Water Resources Department will be the main organizer.
Mr.Hussain said he came to invite the Chief Minister for the inaugural function of the international conference on behalf of the Central Water Commission.
“I’m very happy that the Chief Minister has agreed. This entire conference will be held here under his guidance,” he stated.
Water Resources Principal Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena told reporters that the State Government has agreed to host the event in association with the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the World Bank.
Mr.Jena said over 700 delegates will attend from India and abroad. Deliberations will be held on various aspects of dam safety.
Several practical issues will also be discussed as case studies, the Principal Secretary added.
The activities taken up in different countries about dam safety will be discussed in the conference and the valuable presentations will benefit the engineers of our nation, he said.
“This conference will have some good case studies. Dam failure cases will be discussed in this conference,” the Water Resources Secretary said.
