Beekeeping Turns Lucrative

  

While beekeeping is providing ample scope for improving income of the farmers, experts urged for scaling up the activities for enhancement of productivity also.

A National Level Consultative Workshop on Beekeeping for Enhancement of Crop Productivity and Income was jointly organized by the Directorate of Horticulture, Govt. of Odisha and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar in the Auditorium of Krushi Bhawan, Bhubaneswar on 5 December, 2018.
The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Bibek Debroy, Member, NITI Aayog.
Senior Officials from Government of India and the official from the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha attended the meeting.
Dr. Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Committee of Prime Minister(EAC-PM)  and Member, NITI Ayog, spoke at length.
Ratan P Watal, Member Secretary EAC-PM, K. Rajeswar Rao, Advisor, EAC-PM and Tejeswar Parida, President, KVIB gave their impression of beekeeping and its benefits.
Gagan Kumar Dhal, APC, Odisha, Saurabh Garg, Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmer’s Empowerment,  S. Pasupalak, Vice-Chancellor, OUAT spoke at length.
Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, Director, Horticulture, and  Debabrata Sahoo, Progressive Bee Farmer graced and addressed to the participants in the inaugural function.
 The program was participated by the Line Department officials, Members of the Civil Societies and progressive beekeepers of Eastern Region of the country.
An exhibition was also organized during the occasion involving all the stakeholders for showcasing the scientific technologies to promote beekeeping in Eastern India.
About 200 Beekeeping farmers, stakeholders involved in Bee keeping industry and Bee-Experts from within and outside the state also attended the meeting.
 
Deliberations and discussions were made on issues relating to preproduction, production, marketing, infrastructure and service provision for scientific Beekeeping in eastern region of the country.

The prominent experts like P K Roul, Dean Extension Education, OUAT, C R  Satapathy, Former Professor , OUAT; M R Srinivasan, Professor, TNAU & Member, EAC-PM-Beekeeping Development Committee & Convener, Sub-Committee-1 of EAC NITI Ayog delivered their talks to address the issues concerning Bee Keeping.
