Rout On Panda Way?

Is Damodar Rout on Jay Panda way?

This question is making rounds in the Political Circles and insiders in BJD feel that  Naveen Patnaik will be forced to oust Damodar Rout from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) as the things are going out of control.

As resentment is rising against Veteran Lawmaker, BJD Supremo in order to bring discipline will have to axe Dr.Rout from BJD, feel insiders.

Allegations of “Anti-Party” activities surfaced on 11 September here as a number of  BJD workers brought it before BJD Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Mr.Patnaik listened to them and promised to look into their allegations.

Senior BJD Lawmaker, Prashant Muduli, who visited Naveen Niwas here in the morning along with party's Jagatsinghpur District President Bishnu Das and other workers, accused Dr.Rout of making anti-party statements and allegedly hobnobbing with Congress and BJP leaders in the area.

"While some submitted written complaints to the BJD Supremo, others conveyed their grievances verbally, seeking Dr.Rout's expulsion," the Balikuda-Erasama MLA said.

Acknowledging the receipt of complaints, the chief minister said he would look into the allegations.

"A number of party workers have approached me with their complaints against Dr.Rout. I have promised to look into the matter," he told Media.

Both Mr.Muduli and Mr.Das claimed that Dr.Rout invited BJP and Congress leaders to a recently held rally at Erasama in Jagatsinghpur, causing huge embarrassment to the BJD workers.

Alleging that Dr.Rout's activities would weaken the Governing BJD and benefit political opponents in the area, Mr.Das said the Paradip Lawmaker should be sacked from the party.

Dr.Rout, a seven-time veteran Lawmaker, invited the wrath of his party leaders after he started hobnobbing with opposition political parties and leaders.

However BJD Veteran, on his part, denied the allegations and said Mr.Patnaik, who is also the BJD President, was aware of his activities and that the people of his constituency backed him

Hitting back at the workers who sought disciplinary action against him, Dr.Rout said he had been taken to task on earlier occasions and not much can be done anymore.

Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik had sacked Dr. Rout from his Ministry last year for his derogatory remarks against the Brahmin Community and women anganwadi workers..

"What more action can be taken against me?" the 75-year-old leader asked.

The four-time Minister has not been able to complete any of his terms due to various reasons, mostly due to his controversial action.

In the meantime former BJD MP Baijayant Panda has extended his support to Dr.Rout.

Mr.Panda, who resigned from the BJD in May following his suspension from the party, told Media that a similar campaign was launched, last year, in which people were tutored to level allegations against him.

Describing Dr.Rout as a very senior leader, Mr.Panda said that, "The whole exercise resembles a kangaroo court ... It is not good for democracy and the state."
