Biju Expressway Opens

With opening of Biju Expressway Road Project from Sambalpur to Rourkela, motorists and commuters will get the benefit of a hassle free drive, which also provides a direct link between Western and Southern Odisha.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the Four Laning of Sambalpur-Rourkela section of State Highway-10, which has come up with a cost of Rs.1292.56 Crore is 162 Kilometer, is the longest stretch of 650 KM Biju Expressway.

This four Laning Facility will give advantage in reducing travel time besides improvement in movement of the users and goods service. The project is implemented under Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode by L&T Sambalpur Rourkela Tollway Limited (L&TSRTL).

The flagship program for connectivity being implemented by Department of Works (DoW) is the life line corridor of Western Odisha as the route passes through three major districts of Western Odisha namely; Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.

Thanks to overdrive of Secretary Works, Nalinikanta Pradhan construction of the Major Road Project has been erected with modern technology for an accident free operation of traffic.

All the Black Spots were identified and have been removed with Four Laning having several under pass connectivity. The entire stretch has been erected with Highway Traffic management System (HTMS) and Toll Management System (TMS) while fitted with all modern safety features.

Safety aspects have been supervised by the Central Road Rresearch Institute (CRRI) and quality of work has been supervised by an Independent Engineering Consultant Aarvee Associates.

Giving out details on the road project, a senior officer of the DoW said that in this 162 KM Highway, six major bridges, thirty nine minor bridges, three railway over bridges, one railway under bridge, two fly overs, three sub way, fourteen pedestrian underpass, four vehicular under paas, one elephant underpass and five reptile under passes have been constructed.

While the State Government bears the cost of land, utility shifting and other associated costs involved in pre-construction activities, investment made by the developers will be collected through toll. As the project was taken up under PPP Mode, there will be toll collection at three places and toll plazas are erected in these places.

Medical Aid Posts for immediate health care support for any victims due to accidents have been set up at the toll plazas. The Highway will benefit mining and industrial activities as this road projects is passing through all major industries located along the corridor and this will bring socio-economic benefits to the people of the state, said the officer.
