Mahasweta Lauds Modi

Veteran cine star Mahasweta Ray today plunged into politics and joined the BJP. She lauded Prime Minister narendra Modi for his ideology.

Union Minister Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed her into the Saffron Brigade at the State Party Headquarters here.

"I joined the BJP as I was influenced by the ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I do not know anything about the ideology of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik," Mahasweta said, while making an apparent dig at the Chief Minister.

“The BJP is happy to have Mahasweta in the party”, Mr.Pradhan said.

Union Minister said that the veteran cine star will help in strengthening the party's base in the state.

Two other popular Odia actors Mihir Das and Anu Choudhury had joined the saffron party last month.

Mahasweta, one of the acclaimed actors of Odia Cine Industry, has worked also in Bengali films too.

Recently Ms.Ray raised questions over the choices of the jury members of the 28th State Films Awards.

Ms.Ray, who was awarded the 'Best Performing Actress Award' for her performance in 'Dele Dhara Katha Sare', said she had expected an award for her other film 'Chini'.

The 55-year-old actor made her debut in 'Sesha Shrabana' in 1976 and had acted over 100 films.

Her entry to politics with BJP will add glamour to the Saffron Brigade.
