Axe On Foreign Trips

The State Government has imposed restrictions on travel of senior bureaucrats abroad.

Ashok Kumar Meena, Principal Secretary General Administration has issued the instructions after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik axed the foreign jaunts of several senior IAS Officers.

As per the restrictions, senior bureaucrats can visit abroad for a maximum three times during a financial year.

The State Government has also curtailed the number of days for each foreign visit to five, barring the travel time.

Several IAS Officers were proposing for two week foreign tours, which have been rejected by the State Government.

Sources said all department Secretaries have been directed to ensure that concerned seniors officers do not make frequent foreign visits.

“Officials in-Charge of the departments will be eligible to attend events organised in foreign countries.

No one else would be allowed during the trip.

The officials can only go with the concerned Secretary if need arises,” said an official.

Besides, no Secretary would be allowed to travel abroad during  the Assembly session.

If urgently needed, officials can go only after necessary permission from the Chief Minister, sources added.

It is a fact that IAS Officers in BJD Government have been allowed to go for foreign visits regularly as Chief Minister, who was a Globe Trotter has always wanted to provide scope of foreign visits for the State Officials to broader their horizon.

Earlier in Congress Regime, there was little scope for frequent foreign trips of the senior bureaucrats.

Now Union Government has also put restrictions on foreign visits by the Administrators.

Taking a cue, the State Government has taken the stand, said sources.
