Tourism Connect With Neighbors


State Government will reorient its Tourism Development Strategy with a Special Focus on attracting Domestic Tourists from Neighboring States.

Odisha has started thinking seriously about Post Corona Tourism and Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has taken the lead in examining contours of Domestic Tourism as one area, which could benefit most in the Post Corona Environment.

Promoting Domestic Tourism will be our area of focus. As the road traffic is operationalised slowly, there will be ample of opportunity for family and road-based tourism, which needs to be tapped, said
Vishal Dev, Secretary Tourism.

“The idea is to attract domestic tourists to Odisha,” said Mr.Dev, adding the State Government will come up saying “Odisha is a safe destination”.

Neighbouring states like Andhra Pradhesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal will be on focus.

Pacts to promote each other Tourism Destinations will be signed and accordingly Jharkhand will promote Odisha Tourism and Vice Versa, officials say.

Road Shows will be planned in Vishakhapatnam, Bokaro, Ranchi, Raipur and other Cities of the neighbouring states.

Tourism Sector was ravaged by Extremely Sever Cylone Fani during May 2019, but the State Government had managed to restore normalcy in a record time.

In fact, the Department of Tourism had organised a number of Roadshows attracting both tourists and investors, officials say.

Secondly Odisha is in constant touch with Ministry of Tourism as earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the Centre and all states have to seriously think how the “post-corona tourism” would look like as India has adequate opportunities in this sector.

In revving up the economy Tourism Industry will play a major role and State Government is working on new protocols for the Hotel Industry and other tourist facilities to align them with the needs of a post-corona world.

Odisha is the first State, which allowed Hotels to provide accommodation to Air Crew Members, when Airlines started their operations, said a senior official.

Officials say that Domestic Tourist movement will begin from October and accordingly strategy will be chalked out to promote Eco Tourism Products and Nature of the State, officials say.

Eco Tourism Destinations like Chilika, Similipal, Debrigarh, Satkosia and others are attracting tourists Pre COVID-19.

So, Post COVID-19 Odisha will focus on building interest around key destinations and is eager to restart Tourism Activities.

The State Tourism will work with Ministry of Tourism in tandem, which is planning to boost Domestic Tourism along with the States in a big way, officials say.
