Bank Suspends Manager

Competent Authority on 15 June placed the Manager of Utkal Gramya Bank under suspension for insisting on bringing a 100 year  old woman to bank to receive her pension.

Ajit Kumar Padhan, Branch Manager of Utkal Gramya Bank, Baragaon Branch, Nuapada has been placed under suspension for insisting on the physical presence of a 100 years lady Labhe Bag for withdrawal of money from her Jandhan Yojana Account.
Labhe's daughter Punjimatee (60 years) was compelled to present her mother in the bank by dragging her on a cot.
This unfortunate incident was taken seriously by the State Government and the Chairman of UGB was requested on Sunday to take stern action after due enquiry.
Based on the request, the Management of UG Bank Authorities immediately suspended Mr. Padhan, pending disciplinary action.
The video of the woman dragging her bedridden mother on a cot to a bank in Nuapada district had gone viral on social media.
The woman from Bargaon village dragged her mother on the cot after the bank official allegedly asked for physical verification. The incident took place on 9 June.
“I went to the bank several times in the last three months and requested the bank official to release the pension amount. However, the official informed that they would release the pension if I bring my mother to the branch,” said Punjimati Dei.
UG Bank Manager Ajit Pradhan allegedly asked Dei to bring her bedridden mother Labhe Baghel to the bank.
Her mother is an account holder under Jan Dhan Yojana of the Union Government.
The Centre had announced Rs 500 monthly assistance for women Jan Dhan bank account holders from April to June in view of the COVID-19 situation.
Nuapada  District Administration official informed that the woman reached the bank with her mother before the Manager could visit her home for the verification.
UG Bank Manager promised to visit her house, but could not turned up, resulting such a fiasco and Bank authorities took action against him and his Headquarters is placed as Regional Office, Balangir.
