Is Community Spread Begun ?

The issue is agitating minds of people after 31 people Tuesday tested positive during contact tracing.

Has community transmission of Novel Corona Virus(COVID-19) begun in Odisha.

The State reported 141 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of people infected with the disease to 2,245 in the State.

While 110 people from quarantine tested positive to the virus, 31 people hail from among the community.

However, Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy had on Monday said that 95 per cent of the people test positive from quarantine centres.

However, Tuesday reporting claims that there is more than 20 per cent cases from the community.

The virus is transmitting to local people as some of the people either in the temporary medical camps or home quarantine not adhering to the policy.

This is the only reason for which Kendrapara District Collector Samarth Verma extended institutional quarantine to 14 days from stipulated 7 days.

The district within few days has reported 152 positive cases sparking tension among the people.

In regard to the new cases, official said they were reported from 18 districts. The maximum of 27 fresh cases were found in Ganjam district, followed by 26 in Khurda, 19 in Nuapada, 13 in Kendrapara, 10 in Jajpur, eight in Sundergarh, seven in Bolangir, six in Cuttack and five in Puri.

Four each were reported from Jagatsinghpur, Gajapat and Keonjhar, two each in Dhenkanal and Balasore, and one each in Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul and Sambalpur districts.

With these fresh ones, the number of active COVID-19 cases increased to 991 in Odisha, while 1,245 patients have recovered so far.

"Seven persons succumbed to the disease, while two others died due to non-COVID reasons," the official said.

The State Department of Health &
 Family Welfare has so far tested 1,59,567 samples, he said. A total of 3,877 samples were tested on Monday.

Meanwhile 80 patients on Tuesday recovered from the disease taking total number of cured persons to 1325.

Seven districts have reported more than 100 corona virus cases in the state. They are: Ganjam (458), Jajpur (290), Khurda (167), Balasore (154), Kendrapara (152), Cuttack (126) and Bhadrak (120).

Of the 30 districts, only Rayagada in Southern Odisha remains free from the corona virus outbreak
