Odisha Gets 500 CR

This is called Prime Minister Narendra Modi In Action.

Before completion of  24 hours of his announcement Union Government has released Rs.500 Crore to Odisha Government to take up relief measures in the State, which faced wrath of Extremely Severe Cyclone-Amphan on 20 May.

While Prime Minister announced advance assistance of Rs.500 Crore to Odisha on 22 May at 6PM, Ministry of Finance has released the amount from National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) on 23 May at 4PM.

“Never in the history of the State such alacrity was experienced from the side of Union Government in releasing funds”, admits a senior officer in the Department of Finance.

Department of Expenditure (DoE) has intimated the State Government in this regard on 23 May that funds amounting Rs.500 Crore has been released from NDRMF to the Odisha Government towards relief necessitated by natural calamity.

After Prime Minister announced here about the advance assistance, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recommended Rs.500 Crore release to Odisha Government.
Acting upon the recommendations, Ministry of Finance has relased the amount.

During Fani, similar announcement was made by Prime Minister on 6 May, 2019 and funds were released within a week.

However this time funds were released before 24 hours of the announcement, said the senior officer.

“We have not forgotten those days, when the then Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh announced similar advance assistance to Odisha, which never materialized for months together”, admits the officer.

However now Odisha Model of disaster management is appreciated by Prime Minister and though Odisha Government has not dremanded any advance assistance, a happy Prime Minister announced advance assistance for the “Disaster Zone’.
