MLA Seeks Politicians Role


Though the entire political fraternities in the state including opposition parties remain silent spectators to the COVID-19 Pandemic Management by officers alone, Governing BJD Senior Lawmaker Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy Wednesday become the first in the state to offer his services as a political personality to fight against the Novel Corona Virus(COVID-19).

In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Gopalpur MLA and former Minister opined that the District Administration of Ganjam may be instructed to take the local MLA into confidence on dealing with issues relating to quarantine of people returning from other states.

Chairman, Government Assurance Committee of Odisha Legislative Assembly, Dr.Panigrahy, known for his intellectual opinions, also suggested that Committees may be constituted to monitor the COVID-19 Management at the Parliamentary Constituencies level or at Assembly Constituency level.

These Committees may be headed by the Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly Surjya Narayan Patro for Berhampur Parliamentary Constituency and Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha for Aska Parliamentary Constituency respectively and if it is at Assembly Constituency level it may be headed by the local MLA.

All MPs ;MLAs ; NGOs ; Social Workers, Village Committees and Village Elders in the absence of Village Committee, Youth & Students organizations of respective areas may be included in the committees formed at Assembly / Block / NAC / Municipality/ BeMC /Gram Panchayat levels to help the District Administration in implementing Government rules & regulations to more effectively fight the challenges arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic with the support of the people.

“I request you kindly to consider the proposals to strengthen the COVID-1-9 Management as well as in realizing your vision of protecting lives and ensuring livelihood opportunities of the people of Odisha,” Dr.Panigrahy said in the letter to the Chief Minister.

He also drew attention of the Chief Minister to the fact that every day it has been found that a large number of migrant workers working at different places outside Odisha travelling through the National Highway (Berhampur) with Bi-cycle or by walking and their journey towards their native places is full of health hazards without proper food and money.

To address their problem Highway Care Centers may be opened with provision of water & food packets or alternatively arrangements be made to send them to their, native places by Buses, advised Dr.Panigrahy.

In order to boost the economy of the people the Government offices may function normally to address the issues of the people and also to carry on development program, former Minister suggested.

He advised that “lf needed additional support staff may kindly be engaged in COVID-19 Management so that both lives and livelihood issues can be equally addressed.

Dr.Panigrahy also said that in regard the quarantine accommodation of the migrant workers necessary planning may be made to keep the migrant workers in their own GPs/Blocks so that better attention ; service can be provided to them.

The District Administration may kindly be instructed to take the local MLA into confidence on dealing with such issues, requested Chief Minister .

Dr.Panigrahy also made other suggestions on safety of unaffected people, arresting the spread of the virus from migrants to the locals, and reviving the rural economy.
