Baby Born In TMC

Odisha reported first child birth in a Quarantine Centre(QC) in Ganjam district.

The birth of the baby boy will be remembered for a long time as the child’s mother was in quarantine after returning by train from Surat.

The 28-year old woman and her husband have been lodged in the institutional quarantine centre set up at a High School at Mardhakote in Beguniapada  block of the district since their arrival in the state on May 6.

Though the woman was on her advance stage of pregnancy, she did not give any symptom and therefore remained in quarantine centre.
ASHA and Anganwadi workers conducted delivery of the child before arrival of doctors and paramedical staff.
The woman and her new born baby were shifted to MKCG Medical Collehe Hospital in Berhampur, said Beguniapada Block Development Officer (BDO), B Pradhan.
The condition of both the mother and child was good, he said.
Since she was placed under quarantine, the doctors from CHC Kodala were regularly examining her health. The woman, however, did not tell them the expected date of delivery, the official said.
The BDO said in the morning hours on Tuesday, the doctors had also checked her health. The woman did not show any symptom of giving birth then, but developed labor pain before 30 minutes of delivery, he said.
