Infra For Steel Cluster

With the finalization of India’s first Steel Cluster Pilot Project coming up in Kalinga Nagar, Union Government has urged the State Administration to ensure critical logistic infrastructure for the Mega Cluster of Steel.

Ministry of Steel, which has initiated the India’s First steel Cluster Pilot Project at Kalinga Nagar has listed out several critical logistics infrastructure projects required for success of the Kalinga Nagar Steel Cluster.

Union Minister Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan recently reviewed the progress of Steel Cluster Pilot Project coming up in Odisha. After the review, Rasika Chaube, Additional Secretary Steel is in touch with Odisha Government in this regard, said sources.

At least 13 critical logistic infrastructure projects have been identified for connecting Kalinga Nagar Steel Hub. Both Railway and Highway Projects are identified, which will be key to success of the Steel Hub, officials say.

Railway Projects are Banspani-Jakhpura Railway Line Doubling, Howrah-Chennai Third Railway Line, Kharagpur to Viajayawada Dedicated Freight Corridor in Howarah-Chennai Route, Completion of Paradip-Haridaspur Railway line, and Angul-Sukinda Rail line completion.

Similarly Highway Projects include, Kalinga Nagar- National Highway-53 Four Laning, Completion of NH-42 and NH-55 Four laning, State Highway-20 Expansion, NH-20 Expansion, which connects Panikoili-Rimuli-Rajamunda, Four Laning of NH-520 from Kalta Mines to Roxy Rail Siding, NH-720 Expansion, which connects Duburi-Bamnipal-Keonjhar, Six laning of Duburi to Keonjhar Highway, Expansion of Jamujhari to Dhamra Highway.

Both the Railway and Highway Projects are critical connectivity for the Kalinga Nagar Steel Cluster, which is planned in a massive way.

Similarly another Steel Cluster is planned at Bokaro and c
ritical logistics and infrastructure projects are also being identified for expedition across the 12 major steel zones identified in the region.

Those are Kalinganagar, Angul, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Nagarnar, Bhilai, Raipur, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Durgapur, Kolkata, Vizag.

Ministry of Steel has already taken various steps to make this Hub a reality like framing a policy facilitating creation and upgradation of steel clusters with Kalinganagar and Bokaro have being identified as pilot locations for steel clusters around integrated steel plants.
 
Integrated Steel Hub is planned encompassing Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Northern Andhra Pradesh, that aims to attract investment of nearly $70 billion in the steel sector and spur economic growth across Eastern India.

Task Forces and Working Groups, with the support of the respective State Governments, have also been created.

 

So keeping these developments in view, Union Additional Secretary has requested the State Government to chalk out Action Plan to put in place these critical logistics infrastructure for going ahead in setting up the mega cluster in Kalinga Nagar, said sources.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, ACS Steel and Mines, Raj Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary Industries Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport, Madhu Sudan Padhi, Secretary Works, Krishan Kumar and other senior officials are coordinating the massive logistic infrastructure project, said officials sources.
