Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked the officials to initiate steps to ramp up testing of COVID-19 samples to a whopping 15,000 samples a day in the State.

The decision was taken at a review meeting through video conferencing by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with senior officials on COVID-19 situation in the State.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, Chief Advisor CMO R Balakrishnan Secretary to CM V K Pandian and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Chief Spokesperson Subrato Bagchi said the direction follows after reports that women and children were facing the severity of the problems because of the long distance between Surat and Odisha.

Notably, three accidents have taken place with buses carrying stranded Odias from Surat in Gujarat. Two people were killed and several were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned in Kalinga Ghat in Kandhamal-Ganjam border.

Within 24 hours, two more unfortunate accidents also occurred.

The first was on Nagpur-Amaravati NH in Maharasthra where five people had minor injuries and another at Kalinga Ghat where the bus hit a truck and veered off road.

In the fourth accident on Tuesday near Kuhudi Chhak on National Highway 16 in Khurda district one person was killed and at least 10 others were injured when the bus ferrying about 40 Odia migrants to Banki from Hyderabad met with the accident.

The Chief Minister further ordered for normalizing farming, industry, transportation in Green Zones and to implement an ideal policy for resolving problems faced by industries.

He directed concerned officials to increase loan assistance to farmers and Self Help Groups.

Chief Minister directed to provide an incentive of Rs 2 per meal from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the women under Mission Shakti who have provided over one crore meals under such difficult conditions.

He directed the officials to give special attention to the districts of Ganjam, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Jajpur and Balasore from where more people work in other States.
