Katikata Fails Odisha


The people of Katikata Gram Panchayat in Jajpur district have defeated the entire State by reporting as many as 21 COVID-19 positive cases.

This was admitted by Health and Family Welfare Principal Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal while addressing the daily briefing. He said only four persons had carried the highly infectious virus from neighboring West Bengal and they in turn transmitted the disease to 17 other persons..
 
Mr.Dhal, who hailed from Jajpur district, also did not hesitate to admit that the people in katikata area did not abide by the quarantine norms and state government’s guidelines. They roamed all along even while staying in home quarantine and spread the disease.
 
Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare said unless people cooperate, it will not be possible to contain the infectious disease like COVID-19.
 
Jajpur as a district has also emerged as a cause of concern of the government. The total number of COVID-19 cases has mounted to 48, one more than Bhubaneswar 47 cases.
         
Jajpur also has highest number of active cases while one patient has so far recovered from the disease.
         
 With detection of eight new cases from Jajpur, the total number of COVID-19 cases increased to 157.

With 56 people cured of the disease and one death, the number of active cases in the state now stands at 100. Till Friday, a total of 36,593 samples were tested, they said

All the fresh eight newly detected patients, which include two women, have a travel history to Kolkata in West Bengal, officials said, adding they were kept in a quarantine centre and had no symptoms of corona virus.

Their samples were tested in view their travel history, the officials said.

With these new instances of the infection, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 47 in Jajpur district which has emerged as the new corona virus hotspot of Odisha. Contact-tracing and follow-up action are being done, officials of the Information and Public Relations department said

Of the total 157 cases in the state, Jajpur reported 48 cases followed by 47 in Bhubaneswar, Balasore at 20, Bhadrak at 19, Sundergarh at 10, Kendrapara, Bolangir and Kalahandi districts two each, while Koraput, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Puri have reported one case each.

On the State's preparedness against coronavirus, Mr.Dhal informed that though around 2.500 samples are presently being tested every day, efforts are on to increase the number by four to five fold in the coming days. 

The Odisha Government will increase the number of testings five-fold in upcoming days, informed Principal Secretary, Mr.Dhal while briefing Mediapersons today.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday talked to his Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh counterparts and sought their cooperation to ensure smooth retrun of Odias stranded in their states.

The State Government has also made train and bus arrangements to facilitate return of people to Odisha
