CS Takes Grocery Call

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has said that it has become imperative on the part of the State Administration to ensure the availability of Groceries and other daily needs of the people like Milk, Vegetables etc. with ease coupled, with the requirement of maintaining social distancing.

Accordingly, Mr.Tripathy has advised the District Collectors for taking up action by the Urban Local Bodies (ULB)s as indicated below may be taken up immediately with local customisation.

He said the large markets attracting large number of traders and consumers may be spread out on to the nearby open spaces, playgrounds and roads.

Shop-sale timings can be increased to reduce congestion and efforts may be made to extend it to night hours also, advised he.

He said that Circles and squares are also to be made before each shop to enforce social distancing of consumers in the queue system.

Home delivery of groceries, vegetables, fruits and medicines have to be facilitated in all cities & towns. Some of the major cities have engaged with the traders bodies & notified home delivery charges, pointed out Chief Secretary.

Efforts may be made to facilitate conversion of mobile eatery vans to mobile grocery, vegetable, fruits vans, wherever possible, advised CS.

The WSHGs and ALFs may be roped in by way of supply of non-mechanised vehicles/ tri-cycles, push carts etc. for selling of groceries, vegetables, fruits etc. in their respective areas duly following social distancing norms, said he.

This may be systematically planned and implemented in all ULBs immediately, asked Chief Secretary.
