Funds For Virus Control

With prevailing Health situation in the Urban Areas of the State due to spread of Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), State Government has sanctioned Rs.21.10 Crore to take preventive measures.

G Mathivathanan, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development held several rounds of discussions with senior officials of the Department and reviewed the emerging situation.

Looking at the requirement of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) during the period, Rs.21.10 Crore was sanctioned to meet the expenditure towards taking preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in their respective Urban Areas.

In the Urban Areas, Basic Services are needed to be maintained and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been provided and Municipal commissioners and Executive Officers have been sensitized in this regard.

More than 70 Lakh people are living in Urban Areas and influx of population from other Cities of the Country is adding more problem for the Urban Administration.

While Rs.1 Crore has been sanctioned for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation(BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Berhampur Muncipal Corporation (BeMC), Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Sambalpur Muncipal Corporation have  been sanctioned Rs.50 Lakh each.

Muncipalities are sanctioned Rs.25 Lakh and Notified Area Councils (NAC)s are given Rs.10 Lakh each, said sources.

Looking at the problems, State Urban Administration has sanctioned the amount and has asked not to divert funds in any manner other than the specified works, said an officer.
