SRC Moves Covid-19 SMS

Mobile Service Providers in the State have started sending SMS on COVID-19 Awareness to the people free of cost, thanks to initiative taken up by PK Jena, Additional Chief Secretary Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner.

This move will benefit at least 2.5 Crore Mobile Users in the State, which will generate maximum awareness among the people on COVID-19. They have started sending SMS from 17 March, said sources.
 
Mr.Jena convened a meeting of Telecom Service Providers including BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, Reliance Jioon 16 March to make them aware of the emerging situation arisen due to spread of COVID-19 in the country.
 
Among others, Joint Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, MD, OSMCL, Sr. DDG, Department of Telecommunication (DoT), Government of India Executive Director (T), OSDMA and senior representatives of Telecom Service Providers (BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and Reliance Jio) took part in the meeting.
 
ACS & SRC, Mr.Jena in his address informed that keeping in view the spread of COVID-19 Virus in India and the declaration of COVID-I9 as pandemic by the WHO, the Government of India as well as the State Government has notified it as a disaster under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
 
While the Government is taking all possible measures for containment of COVID-19, it is highly necessary to disseminate the appropriate advisory among the public.
 
Therefore, he requested all the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to support the Government in prepare the dissemination of COVID-19 advisory among people through SMS/ Voice Message to be prepared by the Health and Family Welfare Department.
 
After discussion at length, it was decided that the Department of Health & Family Welfare will provide the COVID-19 Advisory material for dissemination among the people both in Odia and English to Shyamal Kumar Das, Nodal Officer, Office of Special Relief Commissioner (Mob: 9437111705, Landline No. 0674-2534177.
 
Mr.Das, Nodal Officer of SRC Office will send the material (SMS) to the Nodal officer of respective TSPs including BSNL for dissemination of the same to their customers.
 
All TSPs will disseminate the COVID-19 advisory to their customers through SMS free of any charge.
 
The message will be sent by TSPs to each of their mobile phone customers once a day.
 
The TSPs will inform the No. of SMSs delivered to the customers to Nodal Officer of SRC Office on daily basis for appraisal of the Government.
 
During Very Severe Cyclone Fani, BSNL and other Service Providers also helped out the State Administration in disseminating information and BSNL was taking active steps in providing SMS in critical hours, which helped people a lot.
