Sanjay Kumar New DG Forests

1984 Batch IFS Sanjay Kumar has been appointed as Director General Forests.

Department of Personnel and Training(DoPT) has bought out the notification on 16 March in this regard after the appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his posting.

He has been appointed as Special Secretary in Ministry of Forest Enviroment and Claimte change.
A Jharkhand Cadre IFS, Dr.Kumar is known as a serious and committed officer for the cause of forests, wildlife and environment.
He was serving as Additional Director General of Forests for last four months and was Director Wildlife Preservation.
Dr.Kumar was PCCF and HOFF in Jharkhand and has taken up massive afforestation in the State.
Dr.Kumar was also popular among the Lawamakers for his assignment as Executive Director Climate Parliament, where he served more than two long years.
As Deputy Inspector General of Forest in Government of India he has been responsible for Eco-development and afforestation programmes of Government of India, and the Action Plan and policies for increasing forest and tree cover of the country to 33 per cent of the land area as per National Forest Policy.

He developed and implemented structured programmes for decentralisation of forest governance, including political and economic empowerment of the village-level joint forest management committees including through promotion of forest enterprises at that level.

Dr.Kumar has handled United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Government of India. Significant contributions include successful negotiations for a globally agreed 10 Year Strategy and Plan for the Convention (2007) and training of Asian Country Parties on reporting (2010). Worked with Department of Space, Govternment Of India for production of the globally first, Desertification Atlas of India (2004-2007).

Participated in the 14th Session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development at New York both as individual expert and Govt. of India representative. Produced a National Report on Agriculture, Rural Development, Desertification, and Water and Sanitation in India, in collaboration with respective Ministries, and presented to the CSD.

Dr.Kumar is a committed officer, who is serious in his activities.Very studious, Honest and practical, say officers.

He is goal oriented and pursues his objectives. Well behaved and well mannred who is an asset in any negotiation, officials say.

Dr.Kumar is a very dedicated, knowledgeable officer, and thorough with his work. He has excellent experience of working research oriented development work in the rural areas as well, a senior officer said.
