DGP Abhay was happy to reveal that in a major haul, Odisha Police has seized 1.749 kilogram of brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore and arrested three youths on charge of trading the contraband items.

The seizure was made from a place located in the tri-junction of Pipli, Airfield and Jatni police stations spread over Khurda and Puri districts. The seizure was made by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch of Police on 12 March.

STF Chief Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi led the Operations.
DGP Abhay said STF within a span of only two months has seized over 4 kgs of brown sugar due to regular crackdown on brown sugar trade in the state. “The seizure is highest and even more than the cumulative figures of 2018 and 2019,” the DGP said.
“It is the biggest seizure of brown sugar by Odisha Police in recent past,” said Mr.Abhay adding that Odisha Police have been working in tandem with law enforcing agencies of other states.
Police sources said that while only 541 grams of brown suhgar was seized in 2016, the amount was 1.782 kg in 2017, 635 grams in 2018 and 2.560 kg in 2019.
Interrogation of the drug peddler is underway to ascertain his modus operandi, sources said adding anti-drug operations will continue in the State.
