State Assures on COVID-19


Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare Nikunja Bihari Dhal said in Odisha till date not a single positive case has been detected.

Mr.Dhal in a Media Meet on 8 March urged people not to panic over the Coronavirus (CIVID-19) and assured that all preventive steps are being taken by it.

Director AIIMS Dr Geetanjali Batmanabane,  Director I&PR Krupasindhu Mishra, DMET Prof CBK Mohanty, Director Public Health Ajit Kumar Mohanty and other senior officers of Health & Family Welfare Department were present on the occasion

He said so far 131 persons from different points of entry have been put under active surveillance by State IDSP out of which till date 10 persons admitted in the hospital—SCBMCH Cuttack (6), VIMSAR Burla (2) and Capital Hospital (2)—have tested negative for the epidemic.

Principal Secretary said the matter of concern is that, though the spread of the disease has come down in China in last couple of days, it is already in a rising trend in rest of the world.

Mr.Dhal said in India so far 34 persons tested positive for Covid-19 and all of them have either a definite travel history to one of the affected country or is a close contact of the positive case.

The three students from the state of Kerala have already tested Negative and been discharged, he said.

“The remaining patients are in isolation ward under close supervision. The Union Government has already started universal screening of passengers at all international airports and also at other points of entry,” he said.

He said the State Government is fully prepared to tackle any situation.

A State Control Room is functional round the clock with dedicated telephones, isolation wards with ventilator support has been set up at major MCHs and Capital Hospital, screening of all passengers being done at airports and Ports and a testing facility already started at RMRC, Bhubaneswar.

Trained State as well as District Rapid Response Teams (RRT) are in position for case detection and contact tracing and work place advisory has been issued to all departments corporates and other institutes, Dhal said adding, school advisory has been issued to all schools.

Principal Secretary said the Do's & don'ts with other IEC material is being circulated both in Odia & english languages in all the leading dailies as well as being aired in electronic media.


It is well known that Covid-19 has spread to several countries through-out world (94 countries) affecting more than 101927 persons with a total death of 3486 people as per WHO report on 07-03-20.
