Nominees For Rajya Sabha

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced the names of BJD Nominees for the elections to four Rajya Sabha seats that are set to fall vacant in April.

As the President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mr.Patnaik nominated Subhas Singh, Munna Khan, Sujit Kumar and Mamata Mahanta for the Upper House Polls.

Four of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha will fall vacant after the completion of tenure of three BJD Lawmakers -- Anubhav Mohanty, Narendra Kumar Swain and Sarojini Hembram -- and Congress Lawmaker, Ranjib Biswal on 2 April.

Mr.Singh has already resigned from the post of Chairman of the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board(OBOCWWB).

He has been replaced by BJD Veteran Ramesh Chandra Chayu Patnaik as Chairman of OBOCWWB.

While Mr.Patnaik was promised with a Rajya Sabha seat, has been accommodated in the Board.

Mr.Khan, a former Janata Dal leader, is now the Advisor to the Minorities Affairs Department.

He is a Minority Leader and Social Worker of Repute.

Mr.Kumar is Advisor to the Special Development Council and was looking for the BJD Organization in Kalahandi District.

Recently a Team of BJD Leaders from Kalahandi went to Naveen Patnaik and requested him for a Upper House Berth for Mr.Kumar, said sources.

Ms.Mahanta is a BJD Mahila Wing Member from Mayurbhanj district.

As BJD is trying to consolidate its position in the Tribal District with  Organizational Secretary, Pranab Prakash Das is kept In Charge of the district, Ms.Mahanta will be playing a crucial role in coming days in Mayurbhanj Politics.

The BJD supported BJP candidate Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha polls. And this time it was expected that BJP will take another seat. However BJD preferred to field its candidate for all the four seats as Party Supremo was not in a mood to give more space to Saffron Brigade, said sources.
