Urban Advisory On Covid-19

State Government has issued detailed advisory to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB)s as the World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared an outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) disease to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

G Mathivathnan, Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development has issued advisory and said the disease spread for many reasons and particularly when someone who has COVID-19 coughs or exhales release droplets of infected fluid which could fall on the body of others or nearby surfaces and objects such as desks, tables, or telephones etc. People can get infected if they inhale the droplets or by touching the contaminated surface or objects and touching their eyes, nose, mouth, etc.

Since ULBs are working in the sanitation and public hygiene domain, Mr.Mathivathnan has said the ULB authorities will have to be very proactive in providing our services with surveillance and adhere to guidelines and advisory circulated by the Department of Health & Family Welfare.

Principal Secretary has urged for surveillance should be done and reporting to the Control Room of the Health and family Welfare Department should be ensured.

He advised for capacity building of all the field functionaries through training has to be done quickly & all aspects of the symptoms, treatment procedure, preventive measures, restricting its spread etc, should be covered to have a holistic knowledge above the COVID-19 by way of inviting professionals of Health Family Welfare Department.

He said since Aahaar centers have a lot of footfall in a closed space awareness message may be placed in all Aahaar centers and nothing should be exhibited beyond the advisory/guideline issued by H & FW Department.

He advised that hand sanitizers should be placed near the wash basins of Aahaar centers and the toilet complexes may be completely sanitized and hand sanitizers may be kept for hand washing purposes.

It has been advised that the services of Swachha Saathis & Swachha Supervisors may be utilized for creation of awareness with regard to maintaining hygienic practices.

Mr.Mathivathnan has urged to utilize the services of BijuYuvaVahini for sensitizing the masses of the ULBs as and when required.

ULBs having audio system fitted in the garbage collection vehicles can be used to disseminate the information relating to Coronavirus and all market places need to be cleaned twice daily & IEC activities can be done in those market places.

He urged for utmost care may be taken for keeping clean the bus stand, railway station, taxi stands and other high footfall zones.

For better IEC campaign in the ULBs, help of credible CBOs and NGOs may be taken, advised Principal Secretary.

Regular coordination with the Doctors/ paramedics and other field level functionaries of H & FW Department may be made, said he.

It is reiterated that systematic planning and execution can make a big difference for containment of COVID-19, said Mr.Mathivathnana, adding hence, all necessary activities may be taken up urgently and the instructions issued by Health & Family Welfare Department shall be followed scrupulously.
