Advisor Team For SCB


Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday appointed Who-is Who in Health Care Sector of the Country to advise the State Government on how the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack could be transformed into a world-class institution.


At least seven members of the team of ten experts are Padma awardees, while four happen to be alumni of the SCB Medical College, a statement from the Chief Minister's Office said here.

The move is aimed at providing world-class healthcare facilities to people, it said.
 
"SCB is the crowning glory of our healthcare system and is the symbol of hope for millions and millions of people," an official said.
 
The team has been formed close on the heels of an eviction drive launched by the state government to pave way for redevelopment of the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

The Members of the advisory group are Dr Ramakanta Panda, Dr Devi Shetty, Dr K Srinath Reddy, Dr Subrat Acharya, Dr Mukut Minz, Dr Digambar Behera, Dr Rajan Badwe, Dr Jagat Narula, Dr GN Rao and Dr Purnachandra Mohapatra.
  
Dr.CBK Mohanty Director Medical Education and Training, Odisha shall be the Member-Convenor.  

The State Government has also announced a rehabilitation package for people and business entities affected by the project.

SCB is one of the oldest centres of medical teaching and training in the country.


Dr Panda, a Padma Bhusan awardee is an  Alumnus of SCB Medical College ,Cuttack. He is currently the Chief Consultant for Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery and the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai.

He set up the Asian Heart Institute in 2002. Dr Panda specialises in coronary artery bypass grafting using only arterial grafts over a beating heart, redo bypass surgery, valve repair and repairing complex aneurysms.

He is also called 'one of the safest heart surgeons in the world and the 'Surgeon with the safest hands'.

Dr Shetty is also a Padma Bhusan awardee and Chairman Narayan Health.

He is a professor at Rajiv Gandhi University of Medical Sciences Bengaluru and University of Minnesota Medical School in the USA.

He successfully performed the first neonatal heart surgery in the country in 1992, on a 9-day-old baby named "Ronnie" and operated on Mother Teresa in Kolkata.

Dr Reddy—a Padma Bhusan awardee—is the President Public Health Foundation of India  & Ex President World Heart Federation. He also headed the Department of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). 

He has served on many WHO expert panels and has been the president of the World Heart Federation besides being a member of the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network established to assist the United Nations in developing the post-2015 goals for sustainable development.

Prof Subrat Acharya, an alumnus of SCB Medical College is a Padma Shree awardee.

Dr.Acharya has over 40 years of experience in the profession in premier institutions of the country. In 2012, he was appointed Director AIIMS Bhubaneswar, but chose to continue as Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at AIIMS New Delhi.

His ability to analyse the problems of his patients, to present precise and well-thought-out diagnosis, and to suggest the best possible treatment tailored to patients' individual needs has earned him the reputation of a prominent gastroenterologist. In addition, he is known to spend time and effort in clarifying patient concerns.

Prof Dr Minz is a former Professor and Head of the Department of Renal Transplant Surgery in PGI Chandigarh.

A veteran in Kidney Transplant Surgeon, he has performed over 3500 kidney transplants and has numerous  publications in different magazines in the field of medicine.

He received advanced training in cadaver organ retrieval and transplantation at various centres/universities of Norway, Sweden, Germany and USA.

Prof Digambar Behera is also an alumnus of SCB Medical College and considered a pioneer in lung cancer chemotherapy in this part of the country. He is the founder president of the Indian Study for the Study of Lung Cancer.

Dr Badwe, a former Medical Director, Tata Cancer Hospital, is considered as an expert in oncology. He is credited with pioneering research in breast cancer treatment while Dr Jagat Narula, Executive Editor JACC, is Professor of Medicine, Philip J. and Harriet L. Goodhart Chair in Cardiology, Director Cardiovascular Imaging Program in Mount Sinai’s Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health.

Dr GN Rao is Director LV Prasad Eye Institute. He has been the president of the prestigious Academia Ophthalmological Internationalist (AOI)--a group of 80 eminent academicians in ophthalmology in the world, and is a past Chair of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

Prof Dr Purna Chandra Mohapatra, an Alumnus of  SCB Medical College, is a leading Obstetrician and Gynaecologist .

He is a former Professor O.& G. of SCBMCH and former President FOGSI.
