Police On Arrest Drive


Crime Branch ADGP Saumendra Priyadarshi said that Odisha Police has conducted a nine-day special drive from January 27 to February 4 to execute Non-bailable Warrants (NBWs) throughout the state.

As many as 5,121 NBWs were executed during the special drive which compares favourably with total 16,499 NBWs executed in the year 2019, said Mr.Priyadarshi.
 
Briefing Media, ADGP Crime said DGP Abhay has directed State Police to go for overdrive against criminals and due to special drive, total pendency of NBWs has been brought down by 20 percent.
 
The total pendency of NBWs at the beginning of the drive was 39,254 while 1,685 more NBWs were received during the 9-day special drive period.
 
While 5,121 NBWs were executed, 4,333 NBWs were otherwise disposed (mostly recalled) thereby bringing down the total pendency to 31,482 only,” said Mr.Priyadarshi.

During the special drive, SPs of many districts had exhibited exemplary leadership and pursued the warrant drive vigorously to execute large number of NBWs.

While Ganjam district police executed highest number of 733 NBWs, Koraput district police remained in second position by executing 417 NBWs. Khurda district police wass placed in third position by executing 355 NBWs.

The districts executing 200 or more warrants included Cuttack, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj.

DGP Abhay has issued appreciation letters to SPs of Ganjam, Koraput and Khurda district for excellent achievement and leadership during the drive, the ADGP informed.
