Center Lauds Fani Management

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai appreciated the efforts of Odisha Government in evacuating more than 15, 57,000 people to safer places before Super Storm FANI wreaked havoc on 3 May, 2019.

Mr.Rai while replying in the Question Hour over FANI Aid extended to States he complimented Odisha Government, United Nations Organization (UNO), many other countries and experts in the field for their coordinated efforts  for accurate forecasting and warning on natural disasters and the immediate massive evacuation of over 15, 57,000 people to safer places.
Minister Mr.Rai also complimented the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Union Home  Minister Amit Shah for their 24x7 efforts at the time of the natural calamity.
He said that it was all possible due to the mutual cooperation between the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, NDRF teams and the States that a calamity like the 1999 Super Cyclone in which 10,000 people were killed could be avoided.
Replying to BJP Member Jual Oram, Union Minister said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 4,679.09 crore assistance to Odisha to carry out relief and restoration work in Cyclone FANI-affected districts in 2019.
He said the assistance amount was arrived at on the basis of reports of the 11 meetings held by the Cabinet Secretary with National Crisis Management Committee between April 19 and May 10 in the case of Cyclone Fani.
Mr.Rai said the Centre granted Rs 340.875 crore to Odisha from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDTF) fund on April 29, 2019 in advance.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha, additional Rs 1,000 crore was given to the State, the Union Minister informed.
In the meantime, the Centre formed an inter-ministerial central team which visited the State twice to assess the damages. On basis of a report submitted by the team, the Centre granted an additional assistance of Rs 3,338.22 crore from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for Cyclone FANI affected areas of the State, Minister informed the House.
