With a view to ensure Health Care facilities to poor cancer patients, the State Government has decided to cover all the District Headquarters Hospitals in Odisha in District Palliative Care Program.

Pramod Kumar Meherda, Secretary Health & family Welfare has informed all the Chief District Medical Officers(CDMO)s to get in readiness for launching of District Palliative Care Program on 7 November.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will launch the Flagship Program for Palliative Care essentially for all terminally ill cancer patients.

Dr.Meherda has asked the CDMOs that the Facility based Palliative Care should be made available at District Head Quarters Hospitals.

While District Cancer Care Program is being implemented at District Head Quarters Hospital, Rourkela General Hospital(RGH), Rourkela and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar since 2017, District Palliative Care Program(DPCP) will be launched all DHHs across the State on Thursday, said Dr.Meherda.

DPCP will render Palliative Care Services like Pain management, Wound Care, Minor Maneuvers like Pleural Aspiration etc.

Counseling, Spiritual Healing, and Skill Building of Care Givers will be done at DHHs.

Medical Officers and Staff Nurses, who are already trained in Palliative Care are needed to be engaged in the Facility, advised Secretary Health & Family Welfare.
