BJP Ignores Rout

Veteran non-Congress leader Damodar Rout, who joined the BJP before the 2019 general elections, has alleged that he was ignored by the saffron party leadership both in the state and the centre.

Disappointed over the development, Dr.Rout, who has been in politics,  announced not to contest the elections in rest of his life.

Dr.Rout a seven-time MLA, during his 45-years of political career, has been minister for 22 years.

He had left ruling BJD and had joined BJP just before the general election this year following difference of opinion with regional party’s leadership.

“Before elections, they (BJP) invited me and engaged in campaigning and also made me campaign committee head. After polls, where BJP failed to reach the required numbers, do not give importance to me,” Rout, a close aide of Late Biju Patnaik said.

Though Dr.Rout joined the BJP, his only son remained in BJD headed by Naveen Patnaik and got elected to assembly from Paradip Assembly segment.

Dr.Rout is now frustrated and therefore announced not to fight elections in future though he promised to remain in the public life as an activist.

The decision of the leader came hours after the BJP announced the list of its star campaigners for Bijepur bypoll.

The list did not figure the name of the veteran leader who lost the polls from Balikuda-Ersama assembly constituency.

Sources, however, said that Dr.Rout will take a decision soon on whether to continue in BJP or return to his original BJD from where he was expelled in September last year.

Dr.Rout was dismissed from the party after he made a series of allegations of corruption in different state departments of BJD government.

Dr.Rout is known for courting controversy as well as capability as a veteran leader having administrative capabiliities.
