Panda New Transport Commissioner


Top Cop Sanjeeb Kumar Panda Tuesday took over as Transport Commissioner of Odisha at a time when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is concerned over the deep resentment of people due to aggressive overdrive for implementation of new Motor Vehicle Act.

Mr.Panda was received by the senior officers and employees of the State Transport Authority (STA) with lot of enthusiasm as earlier as TC he has left his pleasant foot prints as a "Proactive Leader', said a senior officer in STA.

So after taking over the charge, Mr.Panda talked to Regional Transport Officers (RTO)s in a Video Conference, where he categorically asked them to treat people with respect and not harass them.

1994 Batch IPS, Mr.Panda said “We will ensure that the law abiding are not harassed and given due respect. We seek cooperation of law abiding citizens to make Odisha roads safer.”

He said “Our top most concern will be to improve the road safety, so that the number deaths due to road accidents are reduced.”

Mr.Panda said “We will try to make our roads safer with focus to check drunken driving, over speeding, driving on wrong way, using mobile phone while driving, Triple riding, use of helmet, seat belt, over loading. We will work in close coordination with Police , Health, Housing and Urban development departments.”

Striving to implement the 5T Mantra of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in letter and true spirit by simplifying processes and move will be to reduce the visit of citizens for various type of services the RTO offices to 20 percent of the present level.

The citizens visiting our offices will be provided with modern reception centre along with e-kiosks and volunteers will be engaged to help them in obtaining various services in RTO offices.

System will be modernized and State Transport authority will automate the driving tests, fitness tests so that the human discretion is minimized, said Transport Commissioner.

Mr.Panda said that installation of Intelligent Electronic Enforcement System on the National Highway 316 to check over speed, triple riding, non wearing of helmet, driving on wrong way, detecting stolen vehicles.

And the Law abiding citizens will be taken as partners in Traffic Enforcement and creating traffic awareness, said the new Transport Commissioner.
