Biju Expedition For Himalaya

Fourth Annual Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition to Mt.Stok Kangri will kick start on 9 September at Kalinga Stadium.

Vishal Kumar Dev, Secretary Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism will flag off the Annual Program started by the Department of Sports & Youth Services in 2016.
One of the most fascinating places on the planet is Mt.Stok Kangri(20,187 Ft.) that lie in the beautiful area of Ladakh.
Mt. Stok Kangri is one such peak in Himalayan Ranges that has gain tremendous popularity in the last few years.
The Government of Odisha started this initiative to commemorate the Biju Patnaik Birth Centenary Celebration.
This was organized in association with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.
There is a selection process initiated much prior to the expedition and is led by experienced mountaineers and Everesters.
The selected candidates have to pass through a fitness test as the Himalayan region offers tough terrain and endurance, fitness and strength is key.
 The expedition is exciting and challenging for the young climbers. The response from the earlier expeditions has been encouraging and motivates organsiers to carry on the annual event with great enthusiasm.
Now with the Sports Climbing HPC at Kalinga Stadium, in association with Indian Mountaineering Foundation and their expert coaches, there has been significant number of children who are registered and are being trained.
These children are mainly from Sainik School and KIIT/KISS. Some of the promising Climbers selected from Odisha for junior category (14yrs- 16yrs) will be trained and at the end of October- 1st week of November, IMF plans to conduct a State level competition.
In coming months there is a possibility of having a State Team, an official said.
These young climbers eventually can chalk a path to be yet another Everester from the State of Odisha.
