Free Care For Road Victim

Odisha Government has decided to provide free treatment to road mishap victims at private hospitals as the first 48 hours after an accident are more crucial for a victim as lack of treatment can lead to death.
The free treatment will also be provided in major private hospitals in Bhubaneswar such as AMRI, Apollo and Ashwini.
As per the State Government decision treatment cost at private hospitals will be borne by the State Government and the amount will be provided from road safety fund.
Initially the scheme will be implemented in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar following which all private hospitals in major towns including Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur will be included in the scheme.
In first phase, Rs 4 crore from road safety fund will be provided to Health & Family Welfare department, which has prepared some guidelines for implementation of the scheme.
According to an official notification, on arrival of an accident victim, the private hospital should start his/her treatment immediately and inform about him to Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET).
The DMET will send a formal order to the concerned hospital to carry on the treatment of the accident victim, an official release said on Saturday.
After 48 hours, authorities of the concerned hospital will have to fill up a form and submit it to the DMET.
The fund provided by the Transport Department will be kept at SBI under "Free Treatment for Trauma Fund".
