The festival season has begun in the state with the celebration Shree Ganesh Puja and it will continue till Balijatra and Shree Kartikeswar Puja. 

This period is a very tough time for police as many anti-socials and mischief mongers try to create disturbances in society in the name of religion and festival.

Forcible collection of donation (chanda) is very rampant during the period and it sometimes causes serious law and order situation in the state.

The worst victims of this illegal practice are common people, transport operators and business establishments.

Keeping all these things in view, BK Sharma, Director General of Police had issued specific instruction to District Superintendent Of Police and Commissioner of Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack to curb this illegal practice with an iron hand and take all precautionary measures for smooth and incident free festival.

As per the instruction of DGP, the SPs have been geared up and have started taking action against the mischief mongers who are involved in forcible collection of donation in different parts of the state. As per the report received in the State Police Hdqrs, Police have so far registered five cases and arrested 13 persons in this connection.

Khandagiri Police Station(PS) in Urban Police District Bhubaneswar has registered a case in this connection and arrested one person.

Similarly Chandili PS in Rayagada District has arrested seven persons registering two separate cases in this regard.

Hemagiri PS in Sundargarh District has arrested four accused persons in a single case registered in this connection.

Kamakhyanagar PS in Dhenkanal District has also arrested one person in a single case registered in this regard.

Mr.Sharma, DGP has categorically instructed all concerned to take stringent action against the persons who are involved in forcible collection of donation and cause disturbances in the process of smooth celebration of festivals.
