Probe Demand On Laxmijore

Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has demanded high level inquiry into Laxmijore Nala mess, which caused havoc during the recent floods in Bolangir have devastated the lives and property of over 50,000 people in Bolangir Town.

This was unprecedented in nature and there is a strong belief that faulty construction and design of work done on Laxmijore Nala is primarily responsible for the same.

Presenting the memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, former MP Bolangir, Mr.Singh Deo has urged to examine the faulty design, failure to keep basic health concerns and poor quality work of the project.

The project was taken up with a cost of Rs.20 Crore without a proper environmental study, desilting and technical planning before these works were to be executed.

Due to such faulty execution of the project the town remained submerged for over 7 days and is at a risk of diseases like Dengue, Chikangunya etc due to the amount of sewage water being blocked by the check dams.

Laxmijore is the only traditional drainage channel system for Bolangir Town which has now been choked by embankments walls, encroaching into the Nala and 5 check dams blocking water, causing floods and will result in disease epidemic in the future.

Not only will the badly constructed and planned Laxmijore project, lead to future floods, it will also lead to an increase in diseases since sewerage water of half of the Bolangir Town is emptying out into the drain, which is now stagnating due to the check dams.

This was duly pointed out by Mr.Singh Deo to the senior officials of Department of Water Resurces, however n o amount of warnings to build drains before building check dams and blocking sewage water was heeded.

There are serious allegations of corruption, nepotism and poor quality work executed by petty contractors, which was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister .

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has assured necessary action to be taken by the authorities, said Mr.Singh Deo.
