Padma Gets Plan Award

Padmabati Naik, an Auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) in Mayurbhanj district, has been felicitated by Cine Personality Shabana Azmi for her contribution in reducing Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and spearheading successful childcare initiatives in her locality.


Under her care, the Tribal region has achieved zero IMR and MMR; and she has been able to carry out 852 immunizations and thus completing 100 per cent immunization.

Padmabati, along with the Anganwadi Worker (AWW), organize collaborative meetings at the Anganwadi Centres (AWC) to educate lactating mothers about breastfeeding, child nutrition, etc.

She, as an Accredited Social Health Activist, has spearheaded promotion of breastfeeding which has now reached to 95 percent from 60 percent in her area.

She also plays a key role in dissuading parents and adolescents from child marriage; educating adolescent boys and girls on sexual health, menstrual hygiene, etc. Her timely interference could stop 15 child marriages.
