Odisha In Limelight

While replying the most crucial debate in the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not forget to cite instances Odisha.

Though people across the country do not consider Odisha as a developed state, Mr.Shah did not forget to take the eastern state’s name.

Notwithstanding the pressure of getting the Article 370 resolution passage, Shah said: “Will the doctors from Odisha and Mumbai go to Kashmir, if they are not able to buy house in the valley?.

Mr.Shah said this while referring to ban on outsiders purchasing lands in Kashmir.

He again took name of Odisha when referring the Kashmiri girls marriage. “If a J&K girl marries in Odisha will she and her children get rights in Kashmir,” Mr.Shah said while justifying removal of the Article-370.

While many people wonder as to why Shah frequently took name of Odisha, political analysts say that the BJP president is yet to get out of the election hangover.

Mr.Shah who had set a 120 plus mission for Odisha in the last elections, failed to achieve the goal. This is not all, his party- the BJP got only 23 out of the 147 seats in Odisha Assembly.

Though Mr.Shah’s target was met in almost all states, he literally failed in the face of the popularity of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Naveen Patnaik’s BJD on the other hand got 112 seats.

The unconditional and all out support of Naveen’s BJD to the Kashmir issue, might be a reason for Mr.Shah naming Odisha several times, observers said.
