Odissi Museum Waits Ok


Setting up of Odissi Museum in the State is facing difficulties as the Union Government has not given its green signal to fund the ambitious project after lot of efforts taken up by the State Government.


Funding from Union Government had been urged as Ministry of Culture is financing unique projects to promote Indian Culture and Traditions.

While Odisha Government has decided to set up Odissi Museum, looking at the long standing demand of the State, however funding from Union Government holds the key for formation of such an Institution.

Ministry of Culture was approached for financial assistance for Odissi Museum way back in 2010 and time and again the State Government has approached MoC for approval.

It was decided that there will be 15 Galleries for display on various counts, which will attract the visitors and tourists as well as common people.

While there will be Introductory Gallery, Evolution of Odissi through ages, Allied Art Forms of Odisha, Costume and Jewellery, Musical Instruments will have separate galleries.

There will be a big Performing Arena, for which a separate gallery will be erected, place for Poets and Literary Personalities and Performing Artists and Gurus will be there.

Gallery for Odissi and other major dance traditions, Odissi Music gallery, Temporary Exhibition Area will be part of the Odisha Museum.

For Library, Documentation, and Digital Centre, there will be a separate gallery and Odissi Music Gallery will be there for promotion of such facility.

In the meantime, State Government has decided to set up Odissi Dance Museum in the Guru Kelu Charan Odissi Research Centre.

IDCO has been allocated Rs.1 Crore to start the Infrastructure for facilitating in setting up of Odissi Museum.

However, financial support of Government of India is needed and accordingly, State Government has once again approached MoC for clearing the project.

In fact Odissi Museum will be an Unique Proposition and first of its kind, so MoC has been urged by the State Government for approving funding this ambitious projects.

At least Rs.10 Crore is needed for the innovative and unique project to be funded by MoC.
